Youngin Choi

How long have you been working with ZMS?
I joined in Nov 2018, so it has been nearly 2 years.

How would you describe what you do and how you approach it?
I’m in the MAC (Measurement, Analytics & Controlling) department and we answer questions around our business and products using data. There are several pillars in the team and I mainly deal with the data and KPIs related to our sales performance towards partners. First I choose and define the right KPIs with my stakeholders in order to measure the performance of our business. Then, I monitor them regularly with reports or dashboards to check the stability and to detect where we can improve.

Where do you feel you can have the most impact?
With regard to work, ZMS is becoming more important to the Zalando group and there are many questions about how ZMS could grow together with Fashion Store and partners. I find my impact in helping decision-makers steer our business in the right direction by providing them insights through data.
Besides work, I’m one of the two women and one of the three Asians in our department (we are 15), so contributing a little bit to the diversity of the team and the analytics community!

What makes your department special?
MAC team plays an important role for ZMS when making decisions since we answer business questions based on data. My teammates definitely ‘solve something that matters’ and ‘think big, act fast’ with their skill sets and business intelligence.

How has ZMS enabled you to grow?
I started my professional career at ZMS and have learned a lot so far. My team is very autonomous but supportive at the same time. We have clear ownerships for the pillars that we are in charge of and for our products, but we are not afraid of asking for or giving help to each other. So in this rapidly changing business environment, I have been able to extend my scope and develop business understanding, technical & communication skills.

What surprised you since joining ZMS?
There have been a number of changes inside and outside the company since I joined – new additional products, organizational structure changes, the different business environment caused by COVID-19, and so on. However, ZMS is not afraid of those challenges and always finds solutions, even with speed. I’m always positively surprised by this agility and look forward to even more surprises in the future.

What’s your birthday wish for ZMS?
Happy 5th birthday, ZMS! I can’t wait to see our further growth over the next 5 years 🙂
